Urban Design and Planning
The character and appearance of many historic places has been eroded as a result of ill-considered development in the post war period. Our view is that sensitive urban design is a key issue in the regeneration of settlements and our approach is to learn from the place and its history to arrive at development proposals that respect historic character and ‘grain’. We feel that it is essential to understand the historical processes that have led to settlements appearing as they do and to design new development that reinforces existing character by using harmonious design, materials and building shapes. Our practice has had long experience of the processes involved in planning historic places and can identify sites whose development can positively enhance existing character.
